The Terrence Higgins Trust
The Terrence Higgins Trust was the first charity in the UK to be set up in response to the HIV epidemic and has been at the forefront of the fight against HIV & AIDS ever since.
In the last three years THT has merged with ten different community based charities to create a national organisation with the stability and infrastructure capable of ensuring a long term response to the HIV epidemic.
The organisation's aims are to:
- provide high quality services that are informed by and which meet the diverse needs of individuals and communities affected by HIV and AIDS
- place at the core of the organisation's activities people with HIV, people using services and people in 'at risk' communities, and to provide maximum opportunity for appropriate involvement
- reduce risk and rates of HIV transmission through health promotion programmes
- campaign, advocate and challenge the oppression and prejudice faced by people with HIV and AIDS
- develop and promote innovative models of good practice, sharing with and learning from other HIV and AIDS organisations nationally and internationally
- work in collaboration and partnership with other people and organisations
- ensure that the prevention, care and cure of HIV and the promotion of good sexual health continues to be a national priority
- maintain its independence by mobilising sufficient human and financial resources and using these appropriately to achieve the organisation's mission
